Welcome to the fun, exciting, and challenging world of AIG!
Academically or intellectually gifted students are a unique addition to the classroom. Here you will find information, resources, and activities for your gifted child.
My Philosophy of Gifted Learning
We all have our own unique gifts and talents. However, AIG students can demonstrate these gifts and talents at a superior level in the academic and learning environment consistently and typically across various subject areas. My definition of gifted students can change depending on the student and activity in which they are being considered. In general, I believe that gifted students are highly motivated, creative, critical thinkers and possess a number of the qualities in the word cloud I've created above. Many of these students enjoy the use of challenging text and high-tech devices for activities in their academic and personal lives. While high IQ and superior intelligence are common qualities, AIG students are also well-adjusted, leaders and socially-minded. There is no one-size-fits-all when identifying AIG students. Therefore, teaching and supporting these students is just has multifaceted as they are.

NC & Wake County Regulations for Supporting the Gifted Learner
We are fortunate enough to live in only one of six states across the country where gifted programs are regulated and funded. NC Article 9B defines the standards for which your gifted child will be supported during their educational journey.
State Definition of AIG Students, Article 9B (N.C.G.S. § 115C-150.5)
Academically or intellectually gifted (AIG) students perform or show the potential to perform at substantially high levels of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experiences or environment. Academically or intellectually gifted students exhibit high performance capability in intellectual areas, specific academic fields, or in both the intellectual areas and specific academic fields. Academically or intellectually gifted students require differentiated educational services beyond those ordinarily provided by the regular educational program. Outstanding abilities are present in students from all cultural groups, across all economic strata, and in all areas of human endeavor.
