Why homework?
- I consider homework to be an extension of learning in our classroom. It should be a source of communication between our classroom and your home as well as you and your child. The homework I assign is not intended to be time-consuming or confusing but a source of conversation and continued learning.
- The majority of the assigned homework will be math practice and will be sent home on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These activities will practice the skills learned in class and should take less than 15 minutes.
- Reading Logs will be sent home in students' daily folders during the first quarter. Please keep the reading log in your child's folder and complete it each night after reading with them for 20 minutes. You will be amazed by their growth and they'll be reading to you by the end of the school year! Reading doesn't have to only be done at bedtime. Click here for creative suggestions on how to ensure 20 minutes of reading each day. When your child fills in their whole reading log, they will earn three Blue Jay Bucks as a reward for their hard work!
Tricky Words
Your child will be expected to read and spell these words that they should know in a "snap." These are words that they will encounter frequently in kindergarten text and beyond. We call them tricky words, not because they're hard to spell, read, and write. But because they have tricky parts. The best way to learn these words is to practice identifying the tricky part and then frequent exposure with flashcards and other activities. Click here for some engaging and low-prep activities you can practice at home. I appreciate your support in helping your child learn these words.
